Spread across a sprawling 28,000 sq.ft. plot in South Goa, this villa was designed as a serene everyday home complemented by two guest bungalows on-site. ZERO9 was entrusted with crafting the interiors and landscape, along with detailing the external façade, with a clear brief: keep the space simple, elegant, functional, and low-maintenance for daily living, rather than a secondary vacation home.
The villa’s entrance foyer opens into an 8-foot-wide verandah, adorned with lazy chairs and lush greenery, creating the perfect spot to spend breezy afternoons. The chevron-patterned driveway, paved with reclaimed granite stone, sets a rustic yet refined tone as you arrive.
At the heart of the home lies a 1,500 sq.ft. double-height living room that seamlessly connects to the staircase, dining zone, and entertainment area. A custom grid partition subtly defines the entertainment space, balancing privacy with visual openness. The main seating, featuring leather-backed wooden-edge sofas, exudes understated sophistication, while the dramatic double-height wall clad in exotic aged veneer forms a natural artwork in itself.
The open dining zone, with a pristine white marble dining table, flows effortlessly between the kitchen and living area, combining elegance with easy maintenance. The ground-floor entertainment room acts as the family hub, offering panoramic views of the lush lawn, gazebo, and endless paddy fields. Conveniently adjacent is the grandmother’s room, where light veneer patterns create a serene visual backdrop for the bed and wardrobe.
The spacious kitchen, bathed in soft morning light, centers around a functional island counter, perfect for entertaining family and guests.
On the first floor, a central foyer leads to the master suite, son’s room, daughter’s room, and a shared terrace. The master bedroom, with its balcony overlooking the tranquil paddy fields, pairs warm wooden flooring with rich veneer and golden paneling for a cozy, luxurious vibe. A spacious master bath with a walk-in closet and island storage elevates functionality and elegance.
The son’s room combines light wood flooring with a veneer-and-brown-mirror bed back, creating the perfect frame for the blue bedding, while a cozy reading nook reflects his love for books. The daughter’s room embraces soft purple fabric paneling and muted grey tones, with a stunning view of a mature banyan tree bringing nature indoors. The first-floor terrace, shaded with an angular grid pergola, casts playful shadows over a faux lawn and serves as a cheerful hangout for the grandchildren.
The second floor is designed as a vibrant party space with a fully equipped bar, projector setup, and a terrace overlooking the paddy fields and Goan sunsets. The seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living defines this villa, offering luxury that feels natural, lived-in, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
Between the Lines
Q1. What was the design intent behind this South Goa villa?
The vision was to craft a serene everyday home — not a vacation retreat. The brief called for spaces that are simple, elegant, functional, and low-maintenance, reflecting the comfort of daily living rather than opulent display.
Q2. How does the architecture interact with the Goan landscape?
The design embraces Goa’s natural rhythm — open verandahs, views of paddy fields, and breezy cross-ventilated spaces. The villa and two guest bungalows are positioned to frame the landscape, ensuring nature remains the constant backdrop.
Q3. What sets the arrival experience apart?
The chevron-patterned driveway paved with reclaimed granite sets a rustic, rooted tone. The entrance foyer leads to an 8-foot-wide verandah with lazy chairs and lush greens — a Goan gesture of leisure and welcome.
Q4. What makes the living room the heart of the home?
At 1,500 sq.ft., the double-height living area is the emotional and visual centerpiece. It connects to the dining and entertainment zones through an open, fluid layout — defined subtly by a custom grid partition that balances privacy with openness. The aged veneer wall becomes a natural artwork, radiating quiet grandeur.
Q5. How do materials contribute to the home’s timeless character?
A rich mix of aged veneers, reclaimed granite, warm woods, white marble, and light fabrics creates harmony. Every material is chosen for its durability, tactile warmth, and natural beauty, allowing the home to age gracefully with time.
Q6. What role does the dining and kitchen area play in the home?
The open dining zone is designed for connection — anchored by a white marble table and flowing seamlessly into the kitchen. The kitchen island becomes the social heart during family meals and informal gatherings, bathed in morning light.
Q7. How are the private spaces designed?
The first floor houses the master suite, son’s room, and daughter’s room, each crafted around individual personalities. The master bedroom blends golden tones and wood warmth, while the son’s room feels youthful with books and soft hues, and the daughter’s room frames the canopy of a mature banyan tree, bringing nature indoors.
Q8. What makes the outdoor and terrace spaces special?
The terrace with an angular grid pergola filters sunlight beautifully, creating dappled patterns on the faux lawn — a cheerful gathering spot for grandchildren. Every outdoor corner extends the idea of living with nature.
Q9. How does the second floor enhance the lifestyle experience?
The party level celebrates leisure with a fully equipped bar, projector setup, and terrace views of Goan sunsets. It’s a space for joy and togetherness, maintaining the same design language of ease and openness.
Q10. In one line, how would you describe this villa?
A Goan home that breathes with the landscape — where understated luxury meets everyday comfort, and every view whispers calm.
