This luxurious Jodi flat in South Mumbai overlooks the lush central landscape and recreational zone of a premium residential complex. Designed with an elegant ‘India Modern’ aesthetic, the home seamlessly blends traditional Indian elements with a refined contemporary style, highlighting the clients’ curated curios and timeless Raja Ravi Verma artworks.

From the handcrafted entrance door with intricate detailing to the custom foyer flooring of brass inlaid cement tiles and Jaisalmer stone, every element reflects Indian craftsmanship. The layout offers glimpses of the private garden balcony, creating a balance between open flow and intimate pauses.

The living room is an understated yet striking space featuring Indian Jaisalmer stone flooring paired with vibrant Athangudi tiles, vintage lamps, and a Buddha bamboo corner framing a serene Krishna idol. The combination of Shiva wooden carvings and Raja Ravi Verma paintings behind a modern sofa creates a signature focal point.

The dining space celebrates travel memories with a showcase of collectibles, while the mandir features a saffron wall, semi-private partition, and a stunning onyx backdrop designed for festive occasions like Navratri and Ganesh Chaturthi.

The master bedroom pairs a carved sandstone bed-back with woven cane wardrobes and warm wooden flooring, complemented by a luxurious black chevron-tiled bathroom. The guest bedroom and bathrooms maintain a blend of graphical flooring patterns and muted luxury, offering city views and functional elegance.

The mother’s room incorporates classic black-and-white artwork with Athangudi tile accents, while the son’s room is designed with a large work desk, magnetic shutters, and a minimal geometric-tiled bathroom.

Every space of this South Mumbai home reflects a harmonious mix of cultural richness, modern functionality, and a personal connection to the client’s art and travel stories.

Between the Lines

Q1. What inspired the overall design of this home?
The design draws from the idea of ‘India Modern’ — a style that celebrates Indian heritage and craftsmanship while embracing modern minimalism and function. Every space weaves tradition and contemporary living into a cohesive visual story.

Q2. How does the home connect to its surroundings?
Located in South Mumbai, the Jodi flat overlooks a lush central landscape and recreational zone. The design takes advantage of these natural views, with open layouts and a garden balcony that brings greenery and light deep into the interior spaces.

Q3. What role does art play in the home’s design narrative?
Art is at the heart of the space — Raja Ravi Verma paintings, Shiva wooden carvings, and collected curios anchor key moments throughout the home. They are not mere décor pieces but storytelling elements that express the client’s cultural and personal identity.

Q4. What are the signature material and craftsmanship details?
From the handcrafted entrance door to brass-inlaid Jaisalmer and cement tile flooring, the home is a tribute to Indian artisanal skill. Each detail — whether it’s the saffron mandir wall or the woven cane wardrobes — celebrates handwork and heritage.

Q5. How is tradition interpreted in a contemporary way?
Traditional motifs and materials are reimagined in clean-lined compositions. For instance, Athangudi tiles are paired with minimal furniture, while classical artworks are set against modern neutral backdrops — creating a dialogue between old and new.

Q6. What defines the living room experience?
The living room serves as the visual soul of the home — featuring Jaisalmer flooring, Athangudi tile accents, and vintage lamps that cast a warm glow. The Krishna corner framed in bamboo and Raja Ravi Verma artworks create a timeless focal point.

Q7. How was the mandir designed to reflect culture and celebration?
The mandir is designed as a semi-private spiritual haven with a saffron accent wall, onyx backdrop, and a delicate partition that offers intimacy. It transforms beautifully during festivals like Navratri and Ganesh Chaturthi, becoming the heart of the home.

Q8. What are the standout features in the private spaces?
The master bedroom features a carved sandstone bed-back, woven cane wardrobes, and black chevron-tiled bath — blending texture and luxury. The guest room offers muted elegance, while the mother’s and son’s rooms reflect personality through art, pattern, and practicality.

Q9. How does each room tell a personal story?
Each space echoes the client’s art and travel memories — from collectible displays in the dining area to custom flooring patterns that reflect regional crafts. The home becomes a living gallery of experiences and emotions.

Q10. In one line, how would you describe this home?
A refined expression of Indian soul in a modern frame — where craft, culture, and comfort coexist with effortless grace.
