    Good Homes

A Delhi-based family business with a strong market in Mumbai approached us to design their service apartment with a simple brief – a home away from home.

Blessed with breathtaking views of the Mumbai creek and city skyline, the apartment naturally guided the design approach: doing just enough to frame and invite the scenery inside.

A clean, minimal palette led to an all-white interior with seamless terrazzo slabs unifying the split-level layout. The living room embraces the full-size window, with a swivel chair that shifts between intimate conversations and soaking in the mesmerizing view. A textured painting behind the sofa adds quiet sophistication, while the large windows open to transform the space into a breezy balcony.

The split-level design adds depth, with the upper bedroom sharing the same panoramic view through a cozy window seat, and the lower bedroom extending into a private balcony with an outdoor swing.

The kitchen follows a functional, utilitarian approach with a dedicated laundry room, ensuring comfort and practicality for long stays while maintaining the apartment’s calm and minimal aesthetic.

Between the Lines

Q1. What was the core idea behind this service apartment design?
The brief was simple yet meaningful — to create a “home away from home.” The design had to feel personal and comforting, not like a typical serviced apartment, while embracing Mumbai’s stunning creek and skyline views.

Q2. How did the site and its views influence the design?
The panoramic creek and city views became the design’s hero. Every space — from the living room swivel chair to the bedroom window seat — was oriented to frame and celebrate the view, allowing nature and skyline to flow into daily life.

Q3. What is the guiding design philosophy of this space?
The approach was “do just enough.” The idea was to frame the beauty outside rather than compete with it. Minimal interventions, pure lines, and light materials allow the views and natural light to shape the atmosphere.

Q4. Why was an all-white palette chosen?
White symbolizes calm, clarity, and space. The monochrome palette, paired with seamless terrazzo slabs, unifies the apartment’s split-level layout and enhances the play of natural light — creating a serene, cohesive spatial experience.

Q5. How does the split-level layout enhance the design?
The split-level design introduces visual depth and zonal separation without dividing the space. It allows both bedrooms to connect uniquely with the outdoors — one through a window seat overlooking the skyline, and the other through a private balcony with a swing.

Q6. What makes the living room a focal experience?
The living room is designed around its full-size window — the most dramatic element in the apartment. The swivel chair offers flexibility to face either the view or the conversation, while a textured painting adds quiet sophistication to the minimalist space.

Q7. How was practicality incorporated without disturbing the calm aesthetic?
The kitchen and laundry are designed with functionality and comfort in mind, using a clean utilitarian layout. Every service zone is integrated seamlessly so that the apartment feels both beautiful and livable for long stays.

Q8. How does this project balance design restraint with warmth?
Through texture, proportion, and light. Subtle finishes, handcrafted details, and natural transitions bring warmth to the minimalist shell — making the apartment feel both refined and emotionally grounded.

Q9. What emotion does the apartment aim to evoke?
A sense of stillness and belonging. It’s a space where residents can unwind, reflect, and feel at home — a retreat within the city that nurtures calm without excess.

Q10. In one line, how would you describe this home?
A minimal, soulful retreat that captures Mumbai’s skyline in quiet elegance — truly a home away from home.
